Brendan Rodgers says he can see the development his Celtic side are making after they brushed aside Partick Thistle at Firhill, running out 4-1 winners to move eleven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic dominated possession from the off at Firhill, but early on had little to show for it as each side concentrated on working the other out. Partick Thistle adopted a direct approach, which put Celtic under some pressure.

It was the visitors who would pull ahead though and they scored through Stuart Armstrong in the 38th minute, as Leigh Griffiths got down the flank and put a low ball into the box, which the midfielder connected with.

Armstrong doubled Celtic's lead in the 47th minute, hitting a well-placed shot into the bottom corner after Griffiths fed him from a free-kick.

And just a minute later it was 3-0 as Griffiths got in on the scoring himself, take advantage of a defensive error from Partick Thistle to fire into the back of the net and kill off the hosts.

Partick Thistle pulled one back however on the hour mark, with Liam Lindsay being left unmarked from a free-kick and directing his header over Craig Gordon.

But Celtic would not be moved and netted another in the 81st minute when Callum McGregor struck.

It ended 4-1 and Rodgers was delighted with what he saw.

He was quoted as saying by BBC Scotland: "An outstanding result for us. I don't think Partick had conceded two goals in a game [before this evening].

"The first half was in fits and starts but we got a good goal and changed a couple of things at half time to help us in the build-up."

And the Celtic boss claims he can see his side taking what they have learned in training into games.

"I can see the development: the relationship between the training and the games. We've got goals in the team and we're aggressive when we attack.

"The team's maturing, staying composed and calm under pressure", Rodgers added.
