Antonio Conte has insisted that he wants midfielder Cesc Fabregas to stay at Chelsea beyond the January transfer window.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder has found himself sidelined at Stamford Bridge under Conte’s regime and is no longer a regular starter in the Blues team.

With Nemanja Matic unfit, the Spaniard got an opportunity to start against Manchester City last weekend and Fabregas impressed as Conte’s men scored an important win over one of their title rivals.

However, with the Serbian fit again, there are questions over whether Fabregas will be able to hold on to his place in the team and there have also been rumours that the midfielder could be looking to pack his bags from west London in January.

But Conte insisted that the 29-year-old remains an important player for him and he wants the midfielder to stick around at Stamford Bridge beyond the winter window.

Asked about Fabregas’ future at the club, the Italian said in a press conference: “I’ve already replied to this previously.

“He’s a good player and I want him to stay here.

"I don’t see anything in that.”

Fabregas has started just two Premier League games this season and has played just 177 minutes of league football over five appearances.
