Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green admits that his side struggled to get into their rhythm against a good Brighton team on Friday night, but feels they were not out of the contest until the end.

The Yorkshire giants’ suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Amex as Brighton continued to impress and showed the class which has taken them up to second in the league table.

However, both goals came from penalties and despite dominating most of the encounter, the Seagulls waited until towards the end of game to seal three points against a resolute Leeds team.

Green admits that Leeds never looked settled against a Brighton team who started the game well and stretched his side’s defence by playing with width and pace.

However, the Leeds goalkeeper is pleased to see that his side didn’t down tools even after playing most of the game with ten men and stretched Brighton until the end.

The 36-year-old told BBC Radio Leeds: “I don’t think we were as settled and they were playing well.

“They came in with a plan and they played good football. They are tough team to play against.

“They got the ball wide a lot and their wide players were causing problems and it was difficult to play against when they were playing with such width.

“They spread the game up and it was a storm that we were looking to ride and with ten men we were holding and in the last five minutes we thought ‘why not give it a go’.

“It was not the quickest of starts, but by no means we were out of it; I had no shots to save until the penalty, so it was one of those games.”

Leeds will next take on Reading at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
