Rob Green believes a young Leeds United squad will struggle for consistency this season, but wants them to continue to show character and fight in games.

Leeds’ good run of form came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at Brighton last night, but the Whites still remain firmly in contention for a promotion playoff spot in the Championship.

While defeated, Leeds looked a resolute outfit even with ten men on the pitch and made Brighton work hard before conceding a penalty towards the final minutes of the game, which sealed the points for the home side.

And Whites goalkeeper Green admits that fight is the bare minimum one can expect from the players at Leeds, but has conceded that it is difficult to expect consistency from a young group of players as performance graphs of youngsters are often up and down.

The Leeds United goalkeeper said on BBC Radio Leeds: “What you are looking for as players, what you are looking for as a squad and I'm sure the management is looking for, is character, determination and an effort.

“That’s the bare minimum, that’s what you want to do as players – you want to come together as a group and you want to fight through games.

“You are not going to win every game; we have got a young team and it’s not going to be a hundred per cent consistent.

“It’s the nature of being young.”

Leeds remain in the playoff spots and will next host third placed Reading at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
