Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green has insisted that what all players want from referees is consistency in their decision making.

The Yorkshire giants conceded two goals from penalties last night to suffer a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton at the Amex, their first loss on the road in the league since mid-October.

While Kalvin Phillips’ red card, which led to the first penalty in the first half, was not a contentious decision, the second one towards the end of the game seemed to be debatable as Leeds defender Kyle Bartley was punished for holding on to Lewis Dunk inside the box.

Green feels grabbing and holding goes on at every dead ball situations inside the box, but indicated that referees decide to let some of them go unpunished during games.

The Leeds goalkeeper admits that he is not saying the incidents were not penalties, but feels the referees could be a little more consistent with their decision making.

The veteran goalkeeper said on BBC Radio Leeds: “You are going back to this sort of modern argument, I don’t know when it was introduced this season or last season, of holding in the box.

“If the referees are consistent you don’t mind as in every corner, every free kick there is holding.

“In the first goal I was being held, I could see other lads being held, but the referee doesn’t see that, but in the second half he sees one where Dunk realises that he is not getting to the ball, so he throws himself to the floor and that was given.

“I am not saying they are not penalties, but what you are asking for is consistency.”
