Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has refused to rule Manchester United out of the title race, ahead of his side’s meeting with the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s team, who drew 1-1 with Everton in their last Premier League outing, have endured a stuttering start to their 2016/17 campaign.

Manchester United presently find themselves sixth in the table with 21 points from 14 games, 13 adrift of leaders Chelsea and six behind fifth-placed Spurs.

However, with the season still being relatively young and the Premier League being a “very tough tournament”, Pochettino thinks Manchester United still have a chance to reduce the gap with the leaders and move up the table.

“I think the gap looks bigger but there are a lot of games ahead to finish the league”, he said in his pre-match press conference on Friday, when asked if he expected Manchester United to be closer in the title race.

“The Premier League is very tough, maybe now you are in a good or bad period but you always have the possibility to reduce the gap and when you have good players, a good squad and you are at a good club, that is always possible in football.”

Manchester United, who beat Ukrainian outfit Zorya Luhansk 2-0 earlier in the week to book their place in the Round of 32 of the Europa League, have thus far won just five league games in the present campaign.
