Jose Mourinho has lavished praise on Zlatan Ibrahimovic after he fired Manchester United to a 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace.

Alan Pardew's men showed little in the way of attacking ambition in the first half at Selhurst Park as they concentrated on keeping Manchester United from making the breakthrough.

The Eagles almost succeeded, but in first half injury time up popped Paul Pogba, who linked up well with Ibrahimovic to break Palace's hearts, it being even more painful for the hosts as they felt there was a handball in the build up, as well as an offside claim.

Palace did draw level though, scoring in the 66th minute through James McArthur.

It was then Manchester United's turn to be angered as they were unhappy with a handball from Joe Ledley in his own penalty box, while they also believed a Juan Mata goal should not have been ruled out for offside.

But in the 88th minute Ibrahimovic popped up to secure a 2-1 win and all three points for Manchester United, delighting Mourinho.

"He did a phenomenal performance", Mourinho said of Ibrahimovic to the BBC's Match of the Day.

"After the goal to have the strength and spirit to go in front of the back four and defend.

"It was an amazing performance for a guy who is 35-years-old, scoring goals, being a leader, amazing", he added.

"We played very, very, well. It was a big evolution.

"People sometimes forget about good performances and focus on results.

"We are still sixth so need points", the Manchester United boss concluded.
