AC Milan star Suso has revealed that he decided to quit Liverpool as he thought he was going nowhere at the Merseyside club.

The Spaniard, who joined Liverpool’s academy from Cadiz in 2010, failed to make his mark at Anfield.

Suso scored one goal and provided an assist in 21 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, who decided to sell him to AC Milan in January 2015.

The 23-year-old initially struggled to break into AC Milan’s starting line-up before finally being given an extended run in the team by new boss Vincenzo Montella this season.

Suso has managed to make the most of the opportunity by thus far scoring five times and providing six assists in 17 Serie A games in the present campaign.

And the midfielder, who explained that he felt his development was stalled at Liverpool, thanked Montella for providing him with an opportunity.

“At Liverpool there was no going forward and I needed an opportunity”, he told Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

“That’s why I chose Milan, who for me are a top European club.

“It was hard at first, but then I was given an opportunity, thanks to Montella.”

Suso, who stated that he wants to renew his contract with AC Milan, went on to add that he wants to represent Spain at senior level.

“I would like to renew my contract”, he continued.

“And I would also want to be in the national team. If [Julen] Lopetgui can give opportunities to others, then why not to me?”

Suso, whose present contract with AC Milan runs until 2019, has represented Spain up to Under-21 level.
