Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

The Dutch international, who has been in fine form for Southampton in the present campaign, has been heavily linked with leaving the Saints during the January transfer window, with Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all credited with interest in him.

PSG are the latest entrants into the race for Van Dijk, but it has been suggested they may wait until the summer to make their move.

Following the sale of David Luiz to Chelsea during the summer, PSG currently have just three recognised centre-backs in their ranks, namely, Thiago Motta, Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe.

As a result, they are considering swooping in for Van Dijk, but may have to battle several Premier League sides for the ex-Celtic man.
