Valencia sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch has revealed that he met Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel in London to discuss the possibility of a move to Spain.

The Nigerian international has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this January with a number of clubs reported to be interested in securing the services of the player.

Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has already tipped Mikel to potentially move to Marseille, but the French outfit have competition.

It now appears that the Ligue 1 side are not the only contenders with Valencia sporting director Pitarch revealing that he has indeed held talks with the player after getting permission from Chelsea.

"In the case of Obi Mikel, I met with him in London on Christmas Day or the day before", Pitarch was quoted as saying by Spanish daily Super Deporte.

"I asked permission with Chelsea to meet with him and gave him this possibility.

"He told me that he would think about it and now it is a situation to assess."

Mikel has failed to manage even a single minute of action for the Blues this season under manager Antonio Conte.
