Benfica and Swedish side Vasteras SK are continuing talks aimed at resolving a dispute over Victor Lindelof, something which could unlock a move to Manchester United for the centre-back.

The defender left Vasteras SK for Benfica in 2012, but initially turned out for the Portuguese club's B team before getting the nod to step up to the senior side.

Vasteras SK have filed a complaint with FIFA, alleging that they were entitled to €250,000 when Lindelof made ten appearances for Benfica's first team, as well as being due 20 per cent of any future transfer; Benfica have disputed whether the clauses are still valid.

It has been suggested by Portuguese sports daily O Jogo that successfully resolving the dispute could pave the way for Lindelof to move to Old Trafford.

And Vasteras' president is happy talks are under way and is striking an optimistic note about a resolution.

"Our representatives, Stefan Pettersson and Lars Nilsson, have been in contact with Benfica", president Bengt Ake Nilsson was quoted as saying by O Jogo.

"I hope that the negotiations will lead to a solution, but before they were not interested in talking with us directly and now there has been progress, which we hope leads to something."

Lindelof has been strongly linked with moving to Manchester United, but confusion reigns over whether Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho wants the Sweden international in the current transfer window or in the summer.

It has also been suggested Benfica may look to increase Lindelof's release clause.
