Benfica have settled their financial dispute with Swedish club Vasteras SK, which could lead to Victor Lindelof joining Manchester United this month, it has been claimed.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the Swedish defender during the January transfer window, but it seemed that the deal was off in recent days.

Benfica and Vasteras, Lindelof’s former club, were engaged in a dispute over the amount of money the Swedish club are entitled to if the defender made the move to Old Trafford.

Vasteras also claimed that they were supposed to receive a payment of €250,000 once Lindelof made ten senior appearances for Benfica, but the Portuguese giants never paid.

The Swedish club are also due to receive 20 per cent of any future transfer fee for Lindelof, but Benfica disputed whether the clauses are still valid.

However, a settlement seemed to be on the cards when Vasteras president Bengt Ake Nilsson revealed on Thursday that representatives of their club have been in talks with Benfica.

And according to Swedish daily Expressen, a deal has been worked out between Benfica and Vasteras, which could pave the way for Lindelof to join Manchester United in January.

It has been claimed Manchester United did put pressure on Benfica to settle their dispute with Vasteras, in order to clear the hurdles towards signing the defender this month.

Vasteras are also said to be willing to accept a little less than the 20 per cent of Lindelof’s transfer fee, but it could still make them one of the richest clubs in Sweden.
