Simply Not For Sale – Southampton Slam Door On Exit For Liverpool Linked Star

Southampton director of football Les Reed has insisted that the club won’t entertain any bids for defender Virgil van Dijk during the January transfer window.

The Dutch defender has only enhanced his reputation since joining Southampton from Celtic in the summer of 2015 and is considered one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

His consistency has attracted the attention of the big wigs of the Premier League with Liverpool and Manchester City reported to be interested in snapping up the 25-year-old defender.

However, Southampton director of football Reed has firmly shut the door on any suitors for Van Dijk and stressed that the club won’t sell the player in any circumstances this month.

Reed told BBC Radio Solent when asked about Van Dijk’s future at the club: "He's not for sale.

“We haven’t had any bids, and if we got any bids we wouldn’t consider them.

“It makes no sense for anyone to think we would release Virgil; he’s simply not for sale.”

French champions Paris Saint-Germain have also shown an interest in the Dutchman, but it seems Southampton will dig their heels in to keep the defender on the south coast.
