Former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett says that Arsenal feel a loan switch to Rangers for Jon Toral is a good opportunity for the midfielder.

Rowett, who had Toral at Birmingham City on loan last season, was keen to re-sign the Spaniard when he got wind he could be available despite being on loan at Granada.

But Rowett was surprisingly sacked, leaving Rangers unchallenged in the race for Toral and the Arsenal starlet is being tipped to sign for Gers boss Mark Warburton.

Rowett says that both Arsenal and Toral are of the opinion that a move to Rangers is a wise switch.

"I actually spoke to Jon a couple of days ago and he told me there was a good chance he might be joining Rangers. And I said to him, “can’t you hang on a couple of weeks until I get another job?'", Rowett was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

"But he was quite adamant that he saw this as a good opportunity.

"And I think he feels Arsenal think it is a good opportunity, too", the former Birmingham boss added.

Warburton managed Toral during his time as Brentford boss, with the Spaniard having a loan spell with the Bees.

The Gers boss has been looking to add to his squad in the current transfer window with midfield a key area he is keen to strengthen, with Toral fitting the bill.
