Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier admits that Aston Villa made it hard for his side in their 2-0 FA Cup third round win at White Hart Lane.

Villa showed very little intent to get at Spurs in their FA Cup clash and were content to sit back and frustrate the home side, who dominated the ball and chances during the game.

The north Londoners failed to open up a very defensive Villa side in the first half and had to wait until the 71st minute before they opened the scoring through a Ben Davies goal.

Heung-Min Son sealed Tottenham’s passage to the fourth round of the competition with a second goal nine minutes later as they romped to a deserved win over the Championship side.

Tripper admits that he is pleased to finally get the job done and admits that Tottenham found it tough against the Villans, who were ready to frustrate the home side until the end.

The Spurs defender told the BBC: "We are delighted.

“They made it hard and it seemed at times they had six at the back.

"We reacted well in the second half and the first goal was crucial.”

Trippier played just nine matches this season before today’s FA Cup clash and admits that it is difficult being an understudy to Kyle Walker but he is ready to put in the hard yards in order to remain ready for action.

"I train hard every day and it's difficult because I've got Kyle Walker in front of me who has been doing excellent.

“I need to be ready when called upon."
