Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-Min Son has admitted his team were surprised when Ben Davies scored during his side’s FA Cup tie against Aston Villa.

Spurs dominated possession against the Championship outfit, but did not pose their usual level of threat during their 2-0 win over the Villans at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Mauricio Pochettino rested few of his key players for the game and Tottenham failed to break the defence of Steve Bruce’s men until the 71st minute, when Davies headed the ball past shot-stopper Sam Johnstone to give his side a lead.

A few minutes later, Son doubled the lead to make sure that Tottenham went on to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Following the win, the South Korean said he was happy and surprised at the same time when Davies struck his first goal in a Spurs shirt.

“I was really happy and so was everyone when he scored, we were a bit surprised as well!” Son told Spurs TV.

“Normally Ben is not a striker but I was really happy and after the game congratulated him, but I’m really happy for him.”

Davies said his goal gave Tottenham the momentum and explained: “It’s a rare one, that!

"It’s nice to get the goal but it just gave us that bit of momentum to get over the line.

“It eased the pressure.

"We were forcing the issue a little trying to get that first goal and it was just nice to get it”, added the left-back.

Davies has made just 12 appearances for Spurs this season and he will be eying getting regular games after his performance against Aston Villa.
