1.FC Koln have ruled out bringing Kevin Wimmer back to the club from Tottenham Hotspur.

Austria international defender Wimmer left Koln for Spurs in the summer of 2015 and played his part in helping Mauricio Pochettino's men put in a genuine Premier League title tilt last term.

However, he has often struggled to nail down a spot in the side amid competition from Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld and Koln had been linked with moving to take Wimmer back to Germany.

But according to German magazine RevierSport, Koln will not be re-signing Wimmer this month.

It had been claimed Wimmer would have to take a financial hit to return to Koln from Spurs, given the pay packet he takes home at White Hart Lane.

The defender has started just one of Tottenham's last six Premier League matches, clocking up all 90 minutes in a 4-1 win at Watford.

He did turn out in the FA Cup at the weekend, helping Spurs knock out Aston Villa.

Wimmer is under contract at Spurs until the summer of 2021.
