Atalanta are trying to sign goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini from Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

Goalkeeper Marco Sportiello is leaving Atalanta to link up with Fiorentina, having turned down the chance to join Premier League side Watford, and as such La Dea want to bring in a replacement.

According to Sky Italia, Atalanta want Gollini and have made contact with Aston Villa in an attempt to push an agreement over the line.

Atalanta want Gollini on loan until the end of the season, with an option to keep him on a permanent basis should he impress.

And coach Gian Piero Gasperini is hopeful that his side will be able to land Gollini.

Aston Villa snapped Gollini up from Hellas Verona in the summer transfer window and initially was the club's number 1 this season.

However, he recently lost his first team spot at Villa Park and with the Championship side having brought in Sam Johnstone from Manchester United, Gollini's time in England may be close to ending.
