Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said he is pleased that Francis Coquelin, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny have extended their stays at the Emirates Stadium by signing new long-term contracts.

The three Frenchmen, who have regularly featured in Arsenal’s first team, have been handed new contracts by the Gunners, which the club announced earlier today.

Giroud has been in superb form lately and has scored four goals in his last four appearances for the club, including a stunning scorpion kick against Crystal Palace.

Coquelin, who came through the youth ranks, has developed himself over the years as a strong defensive midfielder and has provided solidity in midfield.

Koscielny meanwhile has captained his side this season and has featured in all the Premier League games of the current campaign after missing the opening game against Liverpool.

Wenger lauded the French trio and said he is happy that three of his first team players have committed their futures to the club.

“We are very pleased that three important members of our team have committed to us for the long term”, Wenger told the club website.

“Francis has made tremendous technical strides over the past few years because he’s so focused every day.

"Olivier has big experience in the game now and has become a more and more complete player since joining us”, added the 67-year-old.

Wenger said Koscielny is a crucial member of his squad and explained: “Laurent is of course a key part of our squad and I believe one of the best defenders in the world today.

“So overall, this is great news for us.”

Arsenal will be aiming to tie down more first team players with new contracts in coming months.
