Sheffield Wednesday have put a bid in for Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane, who has been linked with Aston Villa, Celtic and Rangers.

Hourihane has been in good form for the Oakwell outfit in the Championship this season, but with a contract which expires at the end of the campaign, Barnsley are in a vulnerable position.

Aston Villa are keen on Hourihane and have been pondering a bid, while Celtic and Rangers have been linked with wanting to take the 25-year-old to Scotland.

But it is Sheffield Wednesday who have made the first solid move by slapping in a bid of around £1m, according to BBC Radio Sheffield.

Talks are now taking place between the two clubs and a deal could be pushed over the line in the coming days.
