Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes it would be wrong to assume that Norwich City are out of the race for a playoff spot despite a horrendous run of form.

Alex Neil’s men made a wonderful start to their season and were being considered one of the favourites to achieve automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

However, their form fell off a cliff and they were gradually pushed out of the Championship’s top six as other teams climbed over them to become promotion contenders.

Currently ninth in the league table, Norwich have shown signs of recovery in recent games with a dominant win over Derby County recently coupled with a draw against Southampton in the FA Cup last weekend.

And former Leeds midfielder Gray feels it would be a grave mistake to underestimate the Canaries and write them off as promotion contenders as Norwich are still capable of beating any team in the league on their day.

Reflecting on Derby’s shock loss to an out of sorts Norwich ahead of their trip to Leeds on Friday evening, the former White told LUTV: “That out of sorts Norwich City side on their day can beat anybody.

“I wouldn’t rule them out of contention whatsoever for the top six yet; I know they have had a horrendous run, but only six weeks ago they were top of the league.

“It just goes to show how things can change.”

Norwich have a chance to further build moment when they face relegation battlers Rotherham United this Saturday.
