Southampton are considering the option of signing AS Monaco striker Valere Germain this month, with Everton also watching the Frenchman.

The 26-year-old has scored nine goals for the Ligue 1 side despite not being a regular starter, but has a little less than 18 months left on his contract with Monaco.

It has been claimed that the striker has not heard anything recently about a new contract from the Monaco hierarchy and it seems he has suitors in England’s top tier in this month.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Southampton are interested in snapping up the Frenchman in the winter transfer window to boost their attacking options.

Southampton boss Claude Puel worked with Germain during his loan spell at Nice last season and is keen to reunite with the striker on the south coast of England in the winter window.

However, the Saints could face competition from within the Premier League for the 26-year-old’s signature as Everton are closely following developments at Monaco regarding the striker.

A product of the Monaco academy, Germain has notched up 168 appearances for the club and has scored 41 goals for the principality outfit.
