Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies says that all four full-backs at White Hart Lane are pushing each other to get better due to the fierce competition for a first team place.

Davies was recently handed a start by Mauricio Pochettino and broke the deadlock in Spurs’ FA Cup tie against Aston Villa last Sunday by scoring his first goal for the north London club.

The left-back also helped his side in keeping a clean sheet in the game, which Tottenham won 2-0 to progress to the fourth round.

Pochettino has ensured he rotates his full-backs at regular intervals to give his key players rest and also to keep his men as match sharp as possible.

Davies, who arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer of 2014, believes that the competition in his position is healthy and explained all four full-backs push each other to get better.

“We all push ourselves and you have to be patient to get your chance when someone is playing well and that’s what myself and Trips [Kieran Trippier] have had to do”, Davies told the club website.

“We both work hard every day on the training pitch and that is showing in the performances we’ve put out there.

“We’ve got to keep working hard, the four of us to push each other and improve as much as we can and at the end of the day, that can only be good for the football club”, added the 23-year-old.

The Welshman has made 12 appearances this season for Tottenham Hotspur in all competitions and will be aiming to feature in the starting eleven regularly for the remainder of the season.
