Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has conceded he is a big fan of Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga and could make a move this month to take him to the New York Stadium.

Diagouraga only joined Leeds in the winter transfer window last year, being snapped up from Brentford by Steve Evans. However, with Evans being replaced by Garry Monk in the summer, the midfielder's Leeds career has nosedived.

He has been frozen out of the first team picture at Elland Road and has had to make do with turning out for the club's Under-23 side.

Warne could be about to ride to the rescue, but the Rotherham boss does not want to go beyond stating his interest in Diagouraga, as he feels there are up to 20 central midfielders he can be classed as rating.

"There is a possibility in that and I really like him as a player", Warne was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"But I wouldn't speak about me bringing him back here because while he is a Leeds player, I just think it is disrespectful.

"I do really like him. But I could sit here and name twenty central midfielders that I like", he continued.

"But it is no surprise that we are being linked to him, as I have been saying I want my players to have pace and athleticism and he's comfortable on the ball and a very good player.

"I understand why that link has been made. But I am respectful and that's as much as I can say."

Diagouraga, 29, has had a prior spell at Rotherham, spending time on loan with the club in 2007.

If the midfielder does leave Leeds for Rotherham, he will be linking up with a side sitting rock bottom of the Championship table with just 13 points from 25 games.
