Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin admits that it would have been impossible for him to continue at Manchester United for the rest of the season, but has insisted that he had a good relationship with Jose Mourinho.

Schneiderlin completed his £22m move from Manchester United to Everton last week as he looks to open a new chapter in his career with the Toffees on Merseyside.

Captured from Southampton in 2015, the Frenchman struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford and became a peripheral figure at Manchester United under Mourinho this season.

Schneiderlin admits that it would not have been possible for him to continue at Old Trafford this season as he was not playing enough football under the Portuguese manager.

He insisted that he never had a row with the Manchester United manager as they were clear about what they wanted and feels both understood each other’s situation at the club.

Asked if it was impossible for him to continue at Old Trafford until the summer, the Frenchman told L’Equipe: “No, it was not possible.

“I arrived late after the Euro and the manager had already made his choice and he found a type of team he likes.

“We always had a good relationship with the coach and we spoke bluntly; he understood my situation and I accepted his.

“I was at Manchester United, but I was missing playing and it was not very pleasant.

“It was better for me to leave Manchester United.”

Schneiderlin will now look to kick on and play regularly under ex-Southampton boss Ronald Koeman at Everton.
