Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl says he has no doubt Mahmoud Dahoud, who has been linked with Juventus and Liverpool, can play at the highest level, however he is hoping the midfielder stays put at Borussia-Park.

Dahoud's contract with Gladbach expires in 2018 and the club have so far failed to convince the midfielder to pen an extension, despite holding talks with his agent.

It has been suggested the midfielder could have his heart set on moving elsewhere, but Gladbach have not given up and Eberl confirmed more talks are scheduled to happen.

"We would like Mo to take the second and third steps in his career [with us]", Eberl was quoted as saying by RevierSport.

"Our wish [over a new contract] is known. We have a good relationship with his agent Reza Fazeli and there will certainly be more talks soon", he added.

And Eberl has little doubt that Dahoud has what it takes to play at the top of the game.

"I'm sure that a move to a very big club is possible for Mo Dahoud, if he continues to work hard."

So far this season the 21-year-old has clocked up 18 appearances in all competitions for Gladbach, scoring once and providing his team-mates with two assists.

He struggled to nail down a regular spot in the side in the first months of the season, but started in Gladbach's final six games of the first half of the Bundesliga campaign.
