New Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin admits that he would have liked to have made more of an impact at Manchester United before leaving Old Trafford.

Manchester United confirmed the departure of the French midfielder on Thursday and Schneiderlin joined Everton for a transfer fee of around £22m, rising to £24m based on bonuses.

The 27-year-old was snapped up by Manchester United from Southampton in 2015 after he emerged as a top midfielder in the Premier League, but the Frenchman struggled to have the same kind of impact at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman doesn’t regret his time at Manchester United and believes that it was a huge honour to get the opportunity to represent a club of their stature in his career.

But he admits that he would have liked to have done on the pitch for the Red Devils before leaving the club.

Schneiderlin told French sports daily L’Equipe: “It’s been a great experience.

“Any player dreams of getting involved with such a club; through my performances at Southampton I could sign for them, but to be honest I wanted to leave a little more of a mark on Manchester United.

“It didn’t go according to plan, but I don’t want to blame anyone; it taught me many things, but now I want to look ahead, not behind.

“I was very honoured and happy to play there, but I hoped to do better.”

Schneiderlin played 47 games in total for the Red Devils and his only Manchester United goal came against Everton in October 2015.
