New Rangers signing Jon Toral admits that Gedion Zelalem's good experience at Ibrox was in his mind when he chose to leave Arsenal for the Scottish giants.

Arsenal cut short Toral's loan at La Liga club Granada recently and agreed to loan him to Rangers until the end of the season.

Toral had interest from elsewhere, but the Spaniard admits that Arsenal team-mate Zelalem enjoying a good loan stint at Rangers last term did enter into his thinking when it came to choosing the Gers.

"When players go on loan they want to get minutes and they want to get experience to learn their trade in football", he told Rangers TV.

"I think Gedion did that here and that was in my mind when I made the decision to come over here", he added.

The 21-year-old strengthens Rangers manager Mark Warburton's options in midfield, which have been depleted following the departure of Joey Barton and a season-ending injury suffered by Niko Kranjcar.

Toral will hope to make his unofficial Rangers debut on Sunday when the Scottish side lock horns with RB Leipzig in a friendly fixture.

The midfielder has had prior loan spells at Brentford, Birmingham City and Granada.
