Chris Sutton says Rangers fans should not blame him for the fact the Gers are so far behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

The former Celtic striker has split opinion in Scotland with his outspoken views on Rangers and their manager Mark Warburton, who he has fiercely criticised on numerous occasions.

Sutton, taking part in a phone-in on BBC Radio 5 live, fielding questions from listeners, was asked whether 'Helicopter Sunday', when Rangers took the title from Celtic on the final day of the season, still hurts.

And he hit back: "Yes, but you know why these questions are coming up.

"That was when Rangers were competitive with Celtic", Sutton said.

"There are a lot of people north of the border who are upset that [at] the start of the season that there were some Rangers fans [and] the chairman thought they could push Celtic!

"And Celtic are 19 points clear, there's a big gap and there's a lot of upset Rangers fans about that.

"It's not my fault!"

Brendan Rodgers' men are cruising to the Premiership title this term, while Warburton's Rangers are aiming to lock down second spot.

Celtic have won all three meetings between the two clubs this season, with the fourth set to take place in March at Parkhead.

The Bhoys still have a game in hand on the Gers at the top of the Premiership table, which means they could extend their lead yet further.
