Despite Vincent Janssen struggling at Tottenham Hotspur, his successor at AZ Alkmaar, Wout Weghorst, admits he would have made the same decision as the striker in moving to White Hart Lane.

Janssen is failing to make his mark at White Hart Lane and is consistently being overlooked by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who prefers other options when it comes to his side's attacking set-up.

The chatter in the Netherlands is that Janssen moved to Spurs too soon, having only had one season in the Eredivisie before making the jump to England and the Premier League.

But Weghorst will not join the criticism and admits if he had been in the same situation then he would have also chosen to sign for Spurs.

"If I had a chance to take a step higher, I would have done the same", he said on De Tafel van Kees.

"You always seek the highest place, but you should also look at what is best in the long term.

"But it is difficult to say that you [would] not do [it]", Weghorst added.

Janssen was snapped up by AZ Alkmaar in 2015 from Dutch second tier outfit Almere City.

He turned on the style in his debut season in the Eredivisie, hitting 27 goals to top score in the division and attracted the interest of Spurs in the process.

Tottenham paid €20m for the Netherlands international.
