Rangers manager Mark Warburton has hailed the club's fans after they travelled in numbers to the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on Sunday afternoon.

Warburton's side were up against Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig and sloppy passing saw them come off second best against the Germans, who ran riot to run out 4-0 winners on home turf.

Timo Werner gave RB Leipzig the lead in the 21st minute, before Olivier Burke made it 2-0 close to the half time break.

Rangers had a goal disallowed shortly before the end of the first period, while Yussuf Poulsen then made it 3-0 to the hosts just after the hour mark.

Poulsen grabbed the German side's fourth with ten minutes left as RB Leipzig eased to a comprehensive friendly victory.

Thousands of Rangers fans took in the friendly encounter, having travelled to Germany to cheer the Gers on and Warburton dubbed the supporters unbelievable.

"It’s unbelievable, and we spoke about there never being a friendly for Rangers", Warburton told Rangers TV.

"To have so many thousands of fans come to a snow-covered Leipzig on a Sunday afternoon is ubelievable, and we always say the players never take it for granted, and that’s our responsibility.

"They come here to watch Rangers play and there is never a friendly game in a blue shirt", he added.

Warburton will hope his men have learned from 90 minutes against a side sitting in second spot in the Bundesliga standings.

Indeed, RB Leipzig have collected 36 points from 16 league games, just three fewer than Bayern Munich.
