Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels that other Championship managers will have watched the Whites beat Derby County on Friday night and been hugely impressed.

Garry Monk's men blew Derby away at Elland Road and the 1-0 scoreline, the winning goal scored by Chris Wood before half time, did not do justice to the home team's dominance.

The clash between two teams looking for promotion this season was expected to be tight, but Leeds controlled the encounter, leading to Derby boss Steve McClaren having no complaints after the match.

Gray feels the managers of other Championship teams will have tuned in to the clash and have been left fearing playing Leeds.

He said on LUTV: "I look at the teams, Derby County, eight points between us and Derby now. The first thing you do in our position is open a gap on us and the teams below us.

"We've got to look upwards now, see if we can make inroads into the teams above us and the lead they've got.

"You have jumped up in the league and you are a team that other teams in the league fear", Gray stressed.

"All the other managers will have watched that game and they will say 'wow'.

"I bet Steve McClaren got a bit of a surprise when he saw us compared to the team at Derby. We are a completely different team."

Leeds went down to a 1-0 defeat against Derby earlier this season, but turned the tables on Friday evening at Elland Road, and managed to do so without impressive centre-back Pontus Jansson, who was suspended.

Following Saturday's Championship fixtures, Monk's men sit third in the table and are now starting to put pressure on Brighton and Newcastle United, who occupy the two automatic promotion places.
