Rangers manager Mark Warburton feels his players must continue to be involved in tough clashes, such as Sunday's 4-0 defeat at RB Leipzig, as the Gers need to be competitive when they return to Europe.

Warburton took his Gers side to Germany for a friendly fixture against a team sitting in second spot in the Bundesliga standings and they were roared on by several thousand Rangers fans who made the trip to Leipzig.

RB Leipzig were comfortable winners, but Warburton thinks the tough nature of the clash is something his Rangers stars need to experience and he is confident they will learn from the match.

"Everyone learns from these games – and we have to recognise we gave goals away from us having possession, and our final ball wasn’t good enough", Warburton explained to Rangers TV.

"We never threatened and they got into their positions and they hurt us", he continued.

"It’s too easy to say, “that’s because they’re on X grand a week” – this club cannot afford not to be at a European table.

"We have to keep pushing the club forward, take these tough games and use the experience and be better for them", Warburton added.

Rangers will now prepare to return to competitive action with the end of the winter break on the horizon.

Warburton's men play host to Motherwell this coming Saturday in the Scottish Cup, before then taking on the same opponents the following weekend in the Scottish Premiership, at Fir Park.
