Saint-Etienne co-president Roland Romeyer has made no bones about the fact that on loan Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet has disappointed this season, to such an extent that his club now feel compelled to enter the winter transfer market.

Les Verts snapped up Saivet on a season-long loan from Newcastle in the summer and were hoping to see the former Bordeaux schemer impress back in Ligue 1.

But the 26-year-old has been substantially below expectations, scoring just one goal in eleven Ligue 1 appearances – and Saint-Etienne are now looking to bring in further attacking midfielders as a result.

"It was thought that Saivet, who was a great player at Bordeaux, would bring us more", Romeyer admitted to Poteaux Carres.

"We are looking for solutions, but nothing is done", he added.

Saint-Etienne currently sit in eighth spot in Ligue 1 and have struggled when it comes to scoring goals, netting just 19 in their 20 games so far.

No team in the top ten have scored fewer goals than Les Verts.

Saivet, who is under contract with Newcastle until 2021, appears to have done far too little so far to cause Saint-Etienne to look to keep him on a permanent basis.
