Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has expressed his wish to see Alex Iwobi reach great heights after the forward put in a splendid performance during his side’s match against Swansea City on Saturday.

The Gunners won their match against the Swans at the Liberty Stadium 4-0 and moved back to the top four in the Premier League table in the process.

Olivier Giroud broke the deadlock in the 37th minute and Arsenal went into the break with a one-goal lead.

In the second half, Iwobi posed a constant threat to the Swansea defence and was rewarded when his shot was deflected by Jack Cork into his own goal.

In the 67th minute, the 20-year-old’s shot again took a deflection, this time off Kyle Naughton, and resulted in another own goal for Paul Clement’s side.

Wenger praised Iwobi and said that if the forward keeps the same spirit throughout his career, then he can achieve great things.

"He is gaining in confidence as well”, Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“You could see overall that he develops very well.

“If he keeps that kind of spirit he has at the moment, he can go much higher up”, added the 67-year-old.

“That's my wish."

Iwobi has thus far made 26 appearances for the Gunners this season in all competitions and has three goals and six assists to his name.
