Andy Halliday has expressed his disappointment after Rangers failed to give their fans much to cheer about, following their 4-0 loss to RB Leipzig in a friendly on Sunday, explaining that no other club in the world would take around 8,000 supporters to an away friendly.

The Gers headed to Germany to face the Bundesliga outfit and keep match sharp, with the winter break presently being in effect in Scotland.

But Mark Warburton’s side were outplayed by the hosts at the Red Bull Arena, where thousands of travelling Rangers fans were present to cheer on their team.

And Halliday, who hailed the “phenomenal” support, however, explained that Rangers were bitterly disappointed at failing to give better account of themselves in front of their fans.

“I said before the game, all those thousands of fans didn’t travel to see us lie down”, he told Rangers TV.

“We wanted to make a contest of it, and that’s the disappointing factor.

“If you look at the numbers that travelled, it was phenomenal and I don’t see any other club in the world able to do that.

“It’s disappointing we never gave them something to cheer about, but they were still brilliant with the boys at the end of the game.”

Rangers, who headed into the winter break on the back of a 2-1 loss to Celtic on New Year’s Eve, will next take on Motherwell in a Scottish Cup encounter at Ibrox on Saturday.

The Light Blues are presently second in the Scottish Premiership table with 39 points from 21 matches, 19 behind leaders Celtic, who have a game in hand.
