Watford are interested in snapping up former West Ham and Queens Park Rangers forward Mauro Zarate in the current transfer window.

Walter Mazzarri is keen to add more strength and depth to his squad for the second half of the season in order to keep the Hornets out of the relegation dogfight in the Premier League.

Adding more attacking options is one of Watford’s main targets in the winter window, with emphasis on players who could add more goals to the current squad.

And according to Sky Italia, the Italian manager has looked towards his homeland for solutions as Watford are interested in bringing Zarate back to England from Fiorentina.

Despite not being a regular this season, the 29-year-old Argentine has scored four goals in nine appearances and it has been suggested that he is closing in on a move back to the Premier League.

Fiorentina signed the forward from West Ham in January last year and it seems 12 months later the Argentine is on his way back to England with Watford as it has been claimed that a deal is on the cards.

His experience of playing in the Premier League is one of his key attractions for Watford, but Zarate scored just nine goals in 40 appearances in England’s top tier.

Zarate’s current contract with Fiorentina expires in the summer of 2018.
