Manchester United are lining up a move for Monaco star Benjamin Mendy, who is also wanted by Serie A side Napoli.

Napoli have been assessing the viability of signing Mendy in the summer transfer window, but now Jose Mourinho's Manchester United could beat them to the punch.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Manchester United have not only identified Mendy as a signing – they are already working on a deal and could move to sign him this month.

Mourinho has kept a close eye on Mendy's progress since he switched from Marseille to Monaco last summer and appears to be impressed.

The left-back would provide extra competition at Old Trafford, but Monaco would be likely to resist selling a player so soon after bringing him in.

Mendy has wasted no time in nailing down a regular spot at the Stade Louis II and has made 17 appearances across all competitions for Monaco so far this season.

Indeed, the only games Mendy has missed this term have either been due to injury or suspension.

Mendy is under contract with Monaco until the summer of 2021.
