Arsenal star Shkodran Mustafi has stressed that Per Mertesacker’s experience and personality have helped him in growing at the Emirates Stadium.

Since arriving at the north London club last summer, Mustafi has become a crucial member of Arsene Wenger’s squad in the absence of Mertesacker, who has been sidelined with an injury.

The Gunners have not lost a match in the Premier League when Wenger has decided to play the former Valencia star.

Mustafi has credited his team-mate Mertesacker for making an impact in the first team and becoming an important member of it.

“Per helped me a lot”, Mustafi told Arsenal Player.

“When I had just arrived, having a person at the club with so much experience and with the personality he has helped me a lot.

“He helps me on the pitch because when he sees things, he corrected me a few times”, added the 24-year-old.

“He’s not just the type of player who says, ‘You didn’t do that well enough’ or, ‘You have to do it this way’, he tells you why.”

Mustafi has thus far made 21 appearances this season in all competitions and the centre-back also has an assist to his name.

He will be aiming to make more significant contributions in the upcoming games in order to remain in the first team and also to help his side climb higher in the Premier League table.

Arsenal are currently placed fourth in the Premier League table and have 44 points from 21 games.
