Marseille target Jordan Amavi is not expected to leave Aston Villa in the current transfer window and will instead assess his options in the summer.

The Ligue 1 outfit prioritised the signature of the former 22-year-old defender for the winter window and held a series of talks with the player’s representatives to discuss a transfer.

Marseille even reportedly made a contract offer to the player and were convinced of signing him from Aston Villa, but it has been claimed that Amavi will finish the season in England.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Amavi has decided against leaving Villa in the middle of the season and is keen to continue at the Championship club at least until the end of the campaign.

The defender remains a key element in Steve Bruce’s squad and Villa were always reluctant to lose a player who could aid in their attempts to bounce back to the Premier League.

However, it has also been suggested that Amavi has not ruled out the possibility of returning to France in the summer and Marseille might try their luck again at the end of the season.

Amavi joined Aston Villa from Nice in 2015 and has a contract until 2020 with the Midlands club.
