Former Rangers star Ian Ferguson has stressed that the Gers need to learn to find Moussa Dembele-esque bargains during the transfer windows.

Light Blues boss Mark Warburton signed 11 players in the summer transfer window to strengthen his squad for the season.

However, the Gers find themselves 19 points behind their arch rivals Celtic, who are at top of the Scottish Premiership table with a game in hand and are yet to lose a game in the league.

Rangers have lost four games in the Scottish Premiership and have also lost all the derby meetings with the Bhoys this season.

And Ferguson believes that Warburton needs to learn from the signings Celtic have made, pointing to the Hoops' capture of Dembele from Fulham in the summer.

“Money is not everything and it doesn’t mean everything”, Ferguson was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

“It is having that will to win, that work ethic.

“You have to be technically good and know how to play the game, but money doesn’t buy you what is in a player”, added the 49-year-old.

“Money doesn’t buy you success.

“Rangers have to look to pick up bargains.

“Look at Celtic with Dembele.

“They got a bargain at £500,000 and now people are talking about £20million for him”, said Ferguson.

The Gers have signed Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman on loan deals in the winter transfer window and will be hoping that the duo provide a much needed boost.

Rangers are currently placed second in the Scottish Premiership table and have 39 points from 21 games.
