Aston Villa are expected to complete the signature of Nottingham Forest captain Henri Lansbury by the end of the week, according to the BBC.

Derby County were also interested in the player and even had a bid rejected, but it seems the Villans are set to beat the Rams to the punch for the 26-year-old central midfielder.

Aston Villa have slapped in a bid of around £3.5m for Lansbury and with his contract expiring in the summer, Forest are expected to accept the offer from the Midlands club.

Forest delayed sanctioning his exit due to a takeover of the club that was expected to be completed last week, but the deal fell through and it seems Lansbury is finally on his way to Villa.

And it has been claimed that by end of Friday, Villa are expected to take the deal over the line and sign the former England Under-21 international

Lansbury has scored six goals in 19 appearances this season, but has not played since suffering a hamstring injury last month; it is not expected to hamper the move to Villa.

The 26-year-old joined Forest from Arsenal in 2012 and has clocked up 150 appearances for the club thus far.

The Villans will be hoping to see Lansbury provide a boost to their bid to finish in the Championship’s top six this season when he finally completes his move to Villa Park.
