Rotherham United boss Paul Warne has revealed he was hugely impressed by on loan Celtic midfielder Scott Allan earlier this week and has offered the Hoops star hope of featuring regularly.

Allan is on a season-long loan at the Championship side from Celtic and had been looking to clock up regular game time ahead of a summer return to Glasgow.

But despite Rotherham's struggles in the Championship, Allan's game time has been limited to just eight appearances in the league and he has been out of the mix for several months at the New York Stadium.

Warne though remains a firm fan of Allan and revealed that he had been left hugely impressed by the midfielder in training this week, dubbing him an outstanding talent with the ball at his feet.

The Rotherham manager said at a press conference: "We did some shape on Tuesday and he was the outstanding player on the pitch.

"I've spoken to him and he can compete for a place.

"If he knuckles down and plays like that going forward he can play a part. He's an outstanding talent on the ball.

"When he loses it he gets frustrated with himself. If he can want to win it back he can be really useful for us", Warne explained.

"I'd like to think after our conversation today that he sees this as an opportunity. It's a chance to show us what he can do."

Rotherham are in action this weekend and face a big test with a trip to league leaders Newcastle United on the agenda.

The Millers have won just four of their 26 games so far this season and none on the road, something which has been key to their woes.

It remains to be seen if Allan features.
