Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino insists that Jan Vertonghen is feeling positive and should be back in action in six weeks, with his injury not as bad as first feared.

Vertonghen was forced off with an ankle injury during Spurs' comfortable win over West Brom at the weekend and looked in some pain as he was replaced by Ben Davies.

He has hurt ligaments in his ankle and it was speculated he could be out for two months or even longer in what would have been a big blow for Spurs.

But Pochettino has explained that Vertonghen should be back sooner than expected and also insisted the Belgian is in positive spirits despite the injury.

He told Spurs' Facebook Live Q&A: "Jan Vertonghen is OK. He is very positive.

"We are pushing him a lot.

"We expect six weeks. Less than at first."

But Pochettino will not put a strict deadline in place over when he wants Vertonghen back in action for as he feels it would not be beneficial for the centre-back's recovery.

"We don't want to set the time limit", he explained, before saluting the Belgian's positive mindset.

"When your mind is positive it is easier to recover."
