Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that winger Erik Lamela is due to have a scan on Friday.

The Argentine has been struggling with a hip injury and was recently allowed to head to Rome for further treatment as Spurs work to get him ready to return to action.

Lamela is still out however and he is now due to have a scan as Spurs seek to assess the best way to proceed.

Pochettino admits it is tough to provide any clarity over when Lamela will be available for selection once more and he is simply taking things step by step with the winger.

He told Spurs' Facebook Live Q&A: "Tomorrow Erik Lamela will have a scan.

"We need to see what happens."

Lamela helped Spurs to put in a genuine challenge for the Premier League title last season and heading into the business part of the campaign, also with the FA Cup and Europa League on the agenda, Pochettino will surely want the winger back as soon as possible.

However, Tottenham's approach with the former Roma man has shown an unwillingless to rush him back into action, as they seek to make sure Lamela is fully recovered.
