Rangers star Martyn Waghorn has stressed that the winter break has given his side the chance to rejuvenate themselves and be prepared for the remainder of the season.

The Gers headed into the winter break after winning just one of their last three games and also lost their last game 2-1 to local rivals Celtic on New Year’s Eve.

After winning four consecutive games in the month of December, Mark Warburton’s men dropped their performance level in their last two games.

However, Gers striker Waghorn believes that the winter break has provided his team with much needed rest and has given them the opportunity to mentally prepare themselves for the second half of the season.

“It was important that we got away to recharge the batteries, but also important we didn’t lost too much focus of the job in hand”, Waghorn told Rangers TV.

“It’s always nice to have a few days off and now we are back the boys are ready to go.

“It was a tough challenge against Leipzig but it is important that we mentally have a break going into the second half of the season”, added the 26-year-old.

Waghorn, who has struggled with injuries in the present campaign, has thus far scored ten goals in all competitions in addition to providing four assists.

Rangers, who are currently second in the Scottish Premiership table, will resume their domestic campaign against Motherwell on Saturday.
