Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane has his heart set on a move to Aston Villa, despite having been linked with Celtic, Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday, amongst others.

Hourihane sees his contract at Oakwell expire at the end of the season and is expected to be sold by Barnsley this month, though the Championship side are set on driving a hard bargain.

Sheffield Wednesday were claimed to have made an offer for Hourihane earlier this month, but the midfielder is still at Barnsley.

Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers have been linked with Hourihane, but it is Aston Villa who have now put their own bid in for the midfielder.

According to the BBC, the bid is £1m. However, crucially, Hourihane wants to make the move to Villa Park.

Aston Villa are negotiating with Barnsley and are hoping to make a breakthrough soon in order to add the midfielder to their ranks.

Villa boss Steve Bruce will hope that Hourihane's wish to move to Villa Park can help push the deal through.

Earlier on Friday, Villa completed the signing of Henri Lansbury from Nottingham Forest for £2.75m.
