Manchester United star Michael Carrick has insisted that the Red Devils can finish in the top four in the Premier League and added his side are hopeful of starting another winning run.

Jose Mourinho’s men, who struggled for consistency earlier in the season, have shown great resilience of late and have not lost in their last 16 games in all competitions.

They have reached to the fourth round of the FA Cup and are also in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup; the Red Devils won 2-0 over Hull City in the first leg.

Mourinho’s men have now started to win games regularly and have risen to sixth spot in the Premier league table.

Carrick, who has captained Manchester United in their last two league games, said that his team are not far behind the pack chasing Chelsea and have a lot of games to break into the top four.

"Five points is not an awful lot [from sixth to second in the table], never mind how long is left of the season”, Carrick told MUTV.

“I think we're right in there.

“We've had a good run, we had a little setback at the weekend but it's important to get back to winning and getting that run again", added the 35-year-old.

Carrick has thus far made 17 appearances for the Red Devils this season and has a goal and an assist to his name.
