Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels the top two in the Championship are certainly within reach for the Whites, ahead of their crucial meeting with Barnsley later in the day.

The Yorkshire giants are unbeaten in their last six Championship outings, winning five of those, and are presently third in the table with 48 points from 26 games, seven behind second-placed Newcastle United and nine adrift of leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.

After a stuttering start to their season, Leeds have managed to hit the ground running and have slowly moved up the standings; Garry Monk’s team are now eight points clear of seventh-placed Derby County, whom they beat 1-0 recently.

And Gray feels if Leeds manage to win four to five games on the trot, starting against Barnsley at Oakwell, they have a great chance of breaking into the top two.

“When you have been out of the top six and you get into the top six, you want to get a gap between you and the seventh side”, he told LUTV.

“They have done that and that’s a fair gap – eight points, that’s a big gap.

“Now the top two are definitely within range.

“I get the feeling that if we go on a run and win four or five games on the trot, starting with the Barnsley game, we are going to end up in the top two I think.”

Leeds, whose last defeat came against Brighton in December, beat Barnsley 2-1 in the corresponding fixture at Elland Road in October.
