Alexandru Maxim is not interested in a move to Leeds United as they do not play in a "top league", while his agent has also ruled out a switch to Mexican giants Club America, as he feels players on the up do not leave Europe for Mexico.

The Romania international is currently on the books at second tier German side Stuttgart, but having failed to be the key man the club believed he would be and also taking home a lucrative pay packet, they are prepared to allow him to leave for the right price.

Maxim's agent recently revealed talks were held with Leeds before Christmas, but of late Mexican outfit Club America have been leading the charge.

It did appear Club America were set to get their man, but the midfielder's agent insists that players do not swap Europe for Mexico in a bid to continue improving, rather they head the other way.

"Players who want to improve are moving from Mexico to Europe", Herbert Briem told German daily Bild.

"And not the other way round.

"Alex thinks the same."

And the agent insists that Maxim is not desperate to leave and will only look at quitting Stuttgart if an offer from a top league arrives; he stressed one has not yet come.

As such, according to Bild, Maxim has ruled out Leeds, who currently ply their trade in the English second tier.

"There will be no move at all costs. Currently there is no transfer available.

"That would only be an option if an offer comes from a top league."

The 26-year-old is now appearing to be increasingly likely to end the season at Stuttgart, after which time he will assess his options.

Should Leeds, who are currently fourth in the Championship, gain promotion to the Premier League then the signs are Maxim would consider a switch to Elland Road as the Whites would meet his top league criteria.
